Commissioner of Police, Cross River State, Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has said that the command arrested 18 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists, recovering ammunition from their hideouts. He warned hoodlums to start repenting “before it is too late for them to do so.
“We have enhanced a more robust community policing relations and responsiveness in applying professionalism when officers carry out their duties. The command has identified the need to proactively engage police and the public.
“Community policing implementation has brought about the required synergy with members of the public and the stakeholders to flush out hoodlums from the society.
“The police operatives arrested suspected cultists involved in armed robbery in Calabar and terrorising residents. They are suspected members of Eiye, Axe and Greenlander confraternities. Recovered from them are AK47 rifles.
“The Police Tactical Team arrested another set of armed robbers within Ogoja Area Command axis during a stop-and-search operation. They recovered some weapons from the scene of crime.
“Also the police operatives arrested Suspected hoodlums were arrested in Odukpani, Ikom and Akamkpa. They were terrorising the community. We have raided all their hideouts in the forest. Today, the state is peaceful and crime free.”
