On Tuesday, Governor Ahmad Fintiri OF Adamawa State visited Kirchinga community, Madagali Local Government Area, following a deadly attack by gunmen suspected to be insurgents that left at least 18 residents dead.
The governor’s visit came amid reports that the attackers stormed the community late Monday night, shooting indiscriminately and setting houses ablaze. Several persons are said to be missing, while many homes were destroyed during the assault.

Addressing grieving families and community leaders, Fintiri condemned the killings and described the attack as an act of terrorism.
He assured residents that the state government would intensify collaboration with security agencies to prevent further attacks and safeguard lives and property.

“We will not allow criminal elements to destabilise our communities,” the governor said, pledging continued support for affected families.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the affected villages.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the commissioner led a team of senior officers to evaluate the security situation and review police deployments.
The visit, according to the statement, was aimed at strengthening collaboration with sister security agencies, particularly the military.
The commissioner was received by the Ptil of Madagali and the chairman of Madagali Local Government and held discussions with members of the affected communities, including residents of Shuawari Kirchinga Ward, to reassure them of the command’s commitment to restoring peace and normalcy.
The police statement did not provide casualty figures but said further developments would be communicated in due course.
Madagali, located in northern Adamawa State, has experienced repeated terror attacks over the years due to its proximity to territories previously affected by terrorist activities.
