Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested 17 suspects for armed robbery, kidnapping, murder and rape. Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, said: “I have ordered ban on sale and unauthorised use of fireworks (knockout, banger, Agaba and Nnabor). The ban is in line with the provisions of the law to prevent and incidents of fire outbreaks, injuries, public disturbances and other criminal activities associated with these items.
“Parents and guardians should discourage their children and wards from buying and igniting fireworks. Anyone caught will face the full weight of the law. The command arrested suspected armed robbers in Lafia after raiding their hideouts.
“Operatives also raided hideouts of the criminals in Mararaba and Awe. The hoodlums abandoned their ammunition and escaped into the bush. Police attached to Mararaba A Division, arrested three suspects at a residential building on Yelwa Road, Aso Pada. They recovered locally fabricated riffle knives. Two suspects were arrested for conspiring to kill a woman to cover up for N40,000 debt, which one of the suspects owned her in Agwatashi, Obi LG.
“Hoodlums should stay away from the state as we are going to go after them. We appreciate efforts of the public forgiving us useful information in fighting crime and criminality.”
