At just 16 years old, Master Eshiobomhe Sigmus Aimofumhe stunned the nation by clinching second place at the 774 Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award (774 YONSPA) 2020 national final.
Representing the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Aimofumhe stood out as one of the youngest competitors at the event, yet demonstrated a level of brilliance and composure far beyond his years.
The prestigious event, organized by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, took place in Abuja from March 1st to 3rd, 2020, bringing together the sharpest scientific minds from across Nigeria.
Despite competing against older and more experienced participants, Aimofumhe’s outstanding performance not only secured him a top prize but also spotlighted him as one of Nigeria’s most promising young scientists.
President Muhammadu Buhari, present at the event, personally congratulated the teenage prodigy, shaking his hand and praising his extraordinary abilities.
“For a 16-year-old to achieve this at the
national level is nothing short of remarkable. His scientific talent is not ordinary, it is exceptional, and it
is this kind of excellence that will redefine Nigeria’s destiny in science and technology,” Buhari remarked.
Officials from the Ministry echoed the President’s sentiments, noting that Master Aimofumhe’s achievement serves as proof of the immense potential embedded in Nigeria’s youth. They emphasized the importance of nurturing such early talent to drive the country’s future in science, technology, and innovation.
Aimofumhe’s recognition at such a young age underscores the vision of YONSPA: cultivating a pipeline of young scientists ready to solve national and global challenges. His achievement has inspired countless teenagers across Nigeria, demonstrating that brilliance and leadership in Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) can emerge early in life. The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, through YONSPA, has continued to spotlight the immense potential of Nigerian youth.
