16 burnt to death in Ondo auto crash

The Ondo State  command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of no fewer than 16 persons in a fatal road accident which occured along Ondo-Ore road on Monday.

The FRSC sector commander in charge of the state, Mr Samuel Ibitoye, in a statement,said the accident occurred as a result of head on collision occasioned by high speed.

Ibitoye said that three persons were injured in the accident, while the deceased have  been deposited in the mogue.

He disclosed that those who died in the accident were burnt beyond recognition, while those who sustained injuries are already receiving medical treatment.

He said two vehicles,including a Totota Hiace and a truck had a collision which  sparked fire in the vehicles.

Ibitoye identified over speeding and wrongful overtaking as the main causes of the accident.

However, he said  that investigations have commenced on the accidents, but stated that preliminary investigation indicated over speeding and wrongful overtaking.
