Governor Alex Otti is mourning the death of 15 wedding guests from Abia State who lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident, last weekend.

The victims, said to be traders resident in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, were reported to have traveled to Enugu State for a traditional wedding ceremony.

It was gathered that, on their way back, the vehicle in which they were traveling was involved in a ghastly accident that resulted in the death of 15 of the wedding guests.

Governor Otti, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident.

“Governor Otti received with sadness the news of the auto crash involving some Umuahia-based traders who were said to have travelled to Enugu for a traditional wedding ceremony, but, unfortunately, lost their lives in a motor accident on their way back to Umuahia.

“Governor Otti described as painful and devastating the loss of 15 precious lives in the accident, and regretted that the accident happened where the state could not render any form of emergency assistance.”

The statement said after gathering some reliable information concerning the accident, Governor Otti directed the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection to quickly get across to the families of the deceased and survivors, with a view to offering the necessary support that might be needed by affected families.

Governor Otti called on drivers to always observe road safety rules and desist from over-speeding or driving against traffic, so as to reduce the carnage being witnessed on our roads.

The governor condoled with the families and loved ones of the deceased and prayed to God to grant their souls eternal repose.
