From Agaju Madugba, Katsina
Days after bandits killed three soldiers in Dan-Musa Local Government Area of Katsina State, the terrorists went on rampage again on Tuesday evening, killing 14 residents in two communities of Dandume and Musawa local government areas.
Reports said the bandits engaged in a murderous raid of the Dansoda community of Dandume on Tuesday night where they killed 11 residents after breaking the fast for the day during the ongoing Muslim month of Ramadan.
According to one of the survivors, “We were just relaxing under the trees after breaking the fast and waiting for the late evening prayers when the bandits appeared from nowhere and started shooting.
“Everybody tried to run for cover but some people fell and when we came out from our hideouts after the shooting, we counted 11 of our people killed. They were buried this morning (Wednesday) at about 9am, in accordance with Islamic rites.
Earlier at about 6pm, bandits stormed the Jikamshi community in Musawa Local Government Area and killed three persons with several others injured. Reports said the attackers operated for about an hour during which they also ransacked houses and shops, carting away foodstuffs and other items.
Incidentally, Dandume and Musawa are among some of the local government areas in the state that reportedly reached certain peace deals with a cross section of the terrorists designed to halt further assault on the communities.
The initiative had sparked outrage and condemnation nationwide as notorious and wanted bandits sat with government officials and security personnel during the so-called peace deals.
Governor Umaru Dikko Radda had described the move as “Katsina model.”
