13 die in Ondo auto accident

Ondo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)  has confirmed the death of 13 persons in a fatal road accident at Abule Panu before Ose Bridge, on Owo-Ikare highway , Ondo State.

The fatal crash which occurred at about 10:14 a.m yesterday claimed 13 lives of commuters in two buses.

The FRSC sector commander for the state, Dr Samuel Ibitoye said that a total of 14 persons were involved in the accident, out of which 13 were burnt beyond recognition while only one was rescued with serious injuries.

Eyewitness account said that the bus coming from Ikare axis had a tyre burst which led to loss of control and a resultant head-on collision with the bus loaded with fabrics coming from the Owo axis.

Sources said the two buses went up in flames immediately after the collision.

It was reliably gathered that men of the FRSC, police and Fire Services were swiftly mobilised to the crash scene for rescue operations.

The injured victim was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo while the dead were deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.
