Day Eze Igbo Ghana Foundation walked against drug abuse, trafficking
In a bid to create awareness about the devastating effect of hard drugs on youths and adults in Ghana,Nigeria, and the African continent as a whole, the Eze Igbo Ghana, HRM Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu recently embarked on a walk to sensitise the populace.
The exercise began with Ezeigbo Ghana Foundation under the visionary and pragmatic leadership of HRM Eze Dr. Amb. Ihenetu and his wife, Her Majesty Ugoeze Liberty Ihenetu to embark on two weeks of robust campaign and advocacy against drug abuse and drug trafficking in Ghana and across the African continent to save the youths from further damages and consequences of drug abuse.
The event began at Presbyterian Nativity Church with walk tagged “Rage against illicit drugs” to the stadium. The event was also supported by Ndieze from Obieziokwu Palace alongside schools and hospitals.
The event began with prayers from Eze Igbo Ghana, HRM Dr Ihenetu. As they walked, fliers were distributed to commuters and passersby. Participants also carried placards with inscription like: “Say no to drugs,” etc.
Miss Earth Ghana 2022 was also on the ground alongside other queens from Nigeria, England, Scotland, and Cameroun to add colour to the event
In his remarks, HRM Eze Dr Ihenetu said, “All we are doing here today is to create awareness about drug trafficking and abuse.”
While throwing light on the effects of drugs on individuals, Dr Yennusom Maaloug said the exercise is a step in the right direction.
In his own remarks, HRM Ihenetu thanked all who left their engagements to participate in the life-saving project.
He thanked Rev. Tony White and all kings of Igbos community in Ghana who left their businesses to support the program, both young and old.
The Umuduruoha Amigbo Nwagele Imo state-born Royal Father also commended the media for their strategic partnership “God bless you for being here. whatsoever we do in this world, without the media, no one will hear our voices. Your presence here is highly appreciated,” He said.
Continuing, he said: “One of the things that struck us and made us come out with this idea is my love for our people. Many times, I sit down with our Igbo leaders here and leaders of thought like Rev. Tony and palace elders, we sir down and look around the world, Ghana, Nigeria, and Africa and see that our young ones are being destroyed by intake of hard drugs. Those who would take leadership positions in the nearest future are being rendered useless through drugs.
“We know that countries like America, Angola legalized Indian hemp. Even at that, it has to be taken according to doctors’ prescriptions and not to be abused.
One of the cancer that is seriously eating up the world today includes Cocaine, heroine, and Opium. All these deadly substances will not give you longlive. Rather, it would destroy you. All this substances will not help you build high self esteem instead it will make you addictive and you will end up selling your property to support the consumption and when you run out of cash, push you into crime like armed robbery to sustain it.
“One of the dangerous dimension, it could take is children attacking their parents in order to get money to support drug.
Most times, we receive calls from parents about what they are going through in the hands of their drug addicted children. Parents are afraid of their children and even their lives. parents are now hiding their property documents so that their children will not sell their property to support their illicit lives.
It is that bad that parents hide their daughters from their drug addicted male children for fear of incest taking place in the family under the influence of drugs.
Not only male, but it is vice versa as female drug addicts also find themselves in the same helpless condition.
It is against this ugly background that we have come out to say no to drugs. Also, pupils in junior schools are also involved in some of these things. You see people smoking shisha in so many joints. They failed to realize that shisha is also made of over 90 per cent hard drugs. The worst of it all is that some people take it out of ignorance. In a party, people drink coke and sprite without knowing that it is laced with hard drugs.
My appeal to the dealers of this illicit trade is to look for another business. let them know that drug trafficking is destroying the future of our young leaders of tomorrow.
“If you are a drug dealer, get out of it now. I know it is not going to be easy. You may need counselling. We are ever ready to assist wherever we can to reintegrate you back to normalcy.
Food processing and farming are good sources of money. All of us standing here today, if we do not eat in the next 4 hours, will feel weak. This underscores the importance of food production and processing.
“Africa has vast fertile and arable lands that support farming. All we need is investment using technology and the
the returns, which are far richer than proceeds from drugs, will roll in.
Take, for instance, a lot of money can be made from farming of cotton both for export and local use by our garment industry. You can imagine the type of wealth that would be realised if one goes into mechanised agriculture.
Number two, we are ready to work with you to rehabilitate you to get you out of this situation so that you will realize your full potential in life .
“We also want to call all the kings in Africa, not only Ghana, to join in this crusade to clean up Africa from drugs. We also want to plead with all the church leaders to help talk to their congregations on this important message of getting rid of drugs from our society.
Above all, you father and mothers, you know your children even more than most of us Charity begins at home, a good home will make up a good society and a good society will make a good nation. “Please monitor your children and take note of their attitude. Whenever their character change, quickly act and take a bold step to readjust their steps. make your children your friends, reach their hearts, and as such, it will become easier for you to counsel them on good morals
Teachers, please note that our children from kindergarten to tertiary spend 70 per cent of their life with you.as such, you have a major role to play in moulding and shaping their future. please make it a point of duty to teach them that drug is dangerous and, as such, they should keep out of it in order to live a healthy life.
“We Nigerians living here in Ghana are law-abiding. While we are willing to help rehabilitate repentant drug addicts, we comply fully to the law of the land and will turn in any drug offender to the law enforcement agents in order to uproot evil ones amongst us,”the Royal Father concludes.
