1 dead, 4 rescued in Lagos mosque collapse

By Christopher Oji

One person was confirmed dead while four were rescued after a mosque collapsed at Yusuf Street, Papa Ajao, Mushin, Lagos, yesterday.

It was gathered that an 11-year-old girl, who was pulled out from the rubbles, later gave up the ghost while she was being rushed to the Igando General Hospital.

Four worshipers had been rescued from the rubbles at the time of this report. Daily Sun learnt that the building collapsed at about 2pm when worshipers gathered for Jumat prayers. It was further gathered that no one escaped from the building.

As of press time, emergency responders were assiduously working hard to pull out the rubbles, but no one had been pulled out.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundyin, confirmed the  mosque building collapse, but said he could not ascertain whether anyone was dead or not.

“Yes, there is a mosque collapse at the Mushin area of Lagos, but emergency workers, including the police, are working hard to see if they will rescue the people under the rubbles. I will brief you about the development soon”.
