ZENITH Bank-sponsored women’s basketball league defending champions, Dolphins Basketball club of Lagos dunked off to a good start yesterday when they defeated hard fighting Delta Force of Asaba 83-65 thereby opening a good campaign for the 2016 final 8 play-off.
To show their seriousness in not letting the title go, the Ochuko Okworogun, tutored girls inflicted the first defeat to IGP Queens to set up today’s match-up against Plateau Rocks of Jos.
Speaking after their second victory yesterday, coach of Dolphins, Ochuko Okworogun said their mission is to defend the title they won last year.
She explained that her wards were taking every match one after the other, without actually focusing on any particular team as none of the teams is a pushover.
“Dolphins is the team to beat so we are focused and we are not looking down on any team’’, she said.
In other matches, Nigeria Customs team out-dunked Ahip Queens of Kano 68-44, while former champions First
Bank defeated Benue Princess 100-46.
Plateau Rocks lost 37-45 to IGP Queens. Captain of Plateau Rocks, Gloria Umeh, while commenting on the match blamed their loss to fatigue, having travelled a long distance before arriving Lagos for the games
“We travelled from Jos and arrived late in Lagos, so we did not have enough rest before facing the Police Ladies. We hope to make it up in the remaining matches.”
