The Zamfara State government, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has donated ₦150 million to 1,000 entrepreneurs to foster economic growth.

The initiative, launched on Wednesday during the UNDP’s North-West Prevention Facility Project at Garba Nadama Hall in the state secretariat, Gusau, also included distributing irrigation equipment to 300 farmers selected based on their needs.

Governor Dauda Lawal’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, stated that each entrepreneur received ₦150,000 in start-up capital to transform their business ideas into thriving enterprises.

Governor Lawal said: “These initiatives are not isolated efforts but are parts of our broader vision for a prosperous Zamfara State, geared towards engaging development partners to address our numerous socio-economic challenges.”

He emphasised transparent beneficiary selection from towns like Sankalawa, Furfuri, Karal, Gusau, and Bungudu, adding, “I have consistently emphasised that economic empowerment must be inclusive under our purview, leaving no community behind.” Comprehensive training was provided to ensure a sustainable impact.

UNDP North-West Nigeria Head, Ashraf Usman, praised Lawal’s counterpart funding, saying it sets a pace for other states. Lawal thanked UNDP for supporting his vision, urging beneficiaries to use resources responsibly.
