From John Bassey, Gusau
The Governing Council of Federal University Gusau (FUG), Zamfara State, has appointed Hajiya Nafisa Barau Suleiman as the university’s third substantive registrar and its first female registrar.
Dr Linus Akor, Head of the Media and Communication Committee, announced the appointment in a statement shared with journalists in Gusau on Sunday.
The council approved Suleiman’s appointment during its 29th meeting, held from April 22 to 25 in Abuja. Suleiman, who holds an M.A. in English Language from Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS), Sokoto, marks a historic milestone for the 12-year-old institution.
Before her appointment, Suleiman served as acting registrar following the end of Malam Yakubu Anivbassa’s tenure on 4 February 2025. She was previously deputy registrar in the Vice-Chancellor’s office, overseeing daily administration, and served as faculty officer for the Faculty of Humanities and Education before its division. Suleiman currently represents the University Convocation in the Governing Council.
With prior roles as Senior Staff Officer (Establishment Division) and Head of Staff Development Office, Suleiman is expected to leverage her extensive administrative experience in her new role.
The university management congratulated her, praying for divine guidance as she undertakes her responsibilities.
