As the Yuletide celebration heats up in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Federal Government has resumed rehabilitation of Abuja-Keffi dual carriage way to ease traffic along that axis.

Flagging off the project, Managing Director/CEO of Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engineer Chukwuemeka Agbasi, announced that the programme is tagged: “Operation Connect Your Destination”

According to him, the Abuja-Keffi Road is the major route connecting the entire North-Central to the FCT and other parts of the country.

Agbasi said FERMA is strategically positioned to improve the economy of the country and the intention of the agency is to improve on the socio-economic value the road offers.

He said the essence of the road maintenance/rehabilitation programme is to offer road users good roads when travelling across the country from the North to the South, especially during the Yuletide period.

Earlier, State Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps of Nasarawa State, represented by D. Gidago, the outpost Commander (Goshen-Nyanya) appreciated the innovation of FERMA in improving on the operations of Road Safety members by making the road more motorable, safe for motorists.

Also, Unit Co-ordinator of Nyanya-Aya, Special Marshals Olu Adekunle, commended the humanitarian intervention of FERMA, noting that the Goshen-Nyanya spot has been of great concern to stakeholders managing traffic along the route and its dilapidated condition have caused untold hardship on motorists and other stakeholders.

Similarly, Head of Direct Labour (FERMA), Engineer Sani Abdulkadir, said that the “Operation Connect Your Destination” is a programme designed to ensure free flow of traffic across the country during the Yuletide season, targeting 36 major federal roads in the geopolitical zones across the country in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works.

He appealed to road-users and other critical stakeholders such as the Federal Road Safety Corps to continue to work together with the agency and her representatives in order to sustain the programme beyond Yuletide Season.

According to him, FERMA will be working on critical areas of road failures between now and mid-January, all across the country.
