Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Mr Abiodun Alamutu, has charged officers to checkmate hoodlums during the Yuletide period. The command recently arrested 20 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists.
He said: “Two victims were rescued and N75,000 cash recovered from their hideouts. We are going to be deliberate in securing life and property before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Our personnel are at alert in ensuring hitch-free Yuletide.
“The command is in collaboration with Eagle Crime Awareness and Prevention Initiative (ECAPL), in Sagamu, on a walk of sensitisation against cultism, armed robbery, rape and other vices. The convergence point for the walk is the Akarigbo of Remo’s Palace.
“It will go through Falowo, Makun, Awolowo Market, GRA Road and Sabo. The walk is significant at this time with the focus of nipping crime and criminality in the bud through out the length and breadth of the state. We are saying no to cultism and killing.
“Police arrested another set of suspected cultists terrorising Atoyo, Sagamu. Four suspected notorious cultists who are members of Buccaneer and Eiye confraternities were arrested and weapons recovered from them.
“Operatives also arrested 10 suspected armed robbers operating in Ode-Remo and Ipara axis. They were intercepted on a motorcycle. They confessed to the crime of stealing goods in Isara. We recovered one locally fabricated pistol with two live cartridges and mobile phones from them.
“Also on December 3, 2023, two suspected kidnappers believed to have attacked one Ekia on his with a cutlass farm in Atoyo were arrested.
“Operatives at Kemta arrested two suspects in possession of the body of one Quadiri, a 100-Level student, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State. They recovered the deceased’s two wrists and head sold for N100,000.
“The suspects thereafter continued to sell the victim’s other body parts on demand to Internet fraudsters. They buried the heart, two legs and flesh inside a plastic rubber for rituals. Police operatives stormed their Ajebo, Abeokuta, residence, where they exhumed the decomposing body from a shallow grave.
“The suspects will soon be charged to court.”
