Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, in collaboration with the Huaxing Art Troupe Nigeria, the China Business Association and the Overseas Chinese Women’s Federation, have awarded N100,000 to 10 schools, and N50,000 each to 50 students for their outstanding performances in the arts.

Consul General, Ms. Yan Yuqing, used the Christmas and New Year party to highlight the strong cultural ties between Nigeria and China, saying it would continue to support Nigerian communities through education.

Yuqing said: “The relationship between China and Nigeria is built on mutual respect and cultural exchange. The Chinese Community in Nigeria has been committed to supporting the Nigerian communities through education and health initiatives, building classrooms and renovating schools, while also providing scholarships and healthcare services.

“Our health initiatives, ‘Renewed Hope, Rebirth from the Light’ charity programme, has successfully helped 250 persons, both young and old, to regain their sight through cataract surgeries, and we are dedicated to continuing this initiative massively next year.”

Also speaking, Chairman of the Huaxing Art Troupe Nigeria, Dr. Eric Ni, underscored the importance of children in society.

He said: “Children are the future of all societies. Celebrating the students today is a way of promoting the good relationship between China and Nigeria and also showing gratitude.

“Our on-site school activities, tagged, ‘Nigeria and China Cultural Exchange: On-site school activities programme,’ has successfully travelled around different schools, making significant strides in cultural development, fostering a deeper understanding between our cultures.”

Meanwhile, the party brought joy and excitement to over 2,000 students from various schools across Lagos.

The event created an atmosphere of fun and excitement for the students, whose faces were litted up with games, music, dance, and games, as they participated in various activities, showcasing the spirit of the festive season.

The event featured different Nigerian and Chinese traditional dances, martial arts display, and other cultural performances that sparked excitement from the pupils, including the teachers.

The celebration not only marked the festive season but also reinforced the enduring friendship and cultural exchange between Nigeria and China, leaving a lasting impact on the young participants.
