To mark this year’s World Theatre Day (WTD) on March 27, Vibra will be partnering with Alliance Française Lagos to present a special preview of Ye! an Afrobeat musical – Love Me Jeje Edition.
Alliance Française Lagos is a non-for-profit institution dedicated to the promotion of French language and francophone cultures. It also offers a variety of cultural events such as exhibitions, screenings and concerts all year long. This collaboration highlights Alliance Française Lagos’ commitment to supporting the creative ecosystem in Nigeria.
The annual event, which is celebrated every March 27, is a global initiative dedicated to recognising the transformative power of theatre in culture and society.
Established by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) in 1961, the Chief Executive, Vibra Theatre Company, Tai Ajayi, said the day highlights the role of theatre in fostering creativity, artistic expression and cross-cultural dialogue.
According to him, “Vibra is committed to making theatre more accessible, exciting and commercially sustainable in Nigeria and beyond. With a mission to revive and celebrate African storytelling through dynamic stage performances, Vibra curates high-energy, engaging and culturally significant productions that resonate with young and diverse audiences.
“Ye! an Afrobeat musical is a thrilling production that tells a story of resilience, ambition and the powerful impact of Afrobeat music. Blending humour, nostalgia and a pulsating soundtrack featuring Afrobeat classics and contemporary hits, the show offers an immersive theatrical experience.
“Directed by Austine Onuoha, with music composed by Kehinde Oretimehin, arrangements by Peter Durodola, and choreography by Abimbola Fakiya (Kayfak), the musical has become one of the most anticipated productions of 2025.
“For the first time, Vibra is commemorating World Theatre Day by hosting a special preview of Ye! an Afrobeat musical in collaboration with Alliance Française Lagos. This exclusive event offers audiences an early look at the production, while reinforcing Vibra’s commitment to making theatre a central part of Nigerian popular culture.
“This partnership aligns with both organisations’ goals of fostering cross-cultural exchanges and supporting the arts through immersive experiences that bring communities together,” he stated.
Highlights of the event include a special preview of Ye! ‘Love Me Jeje’ edition, open to the public; a celebration of theatre’s role in storytelling, culture, and entertainment; a platform for theatre lovers, creative and cultural enthusiasts to engage with live performance and a panel discussion, where cast members will talk about how theatre has become important in telling their stories.
