The World Igbo Congress, WIC, has set criteria for those that will be allowed to attend its international convention in New England in the northeastern part of the United States of America on August 29, 2025.

According to the Vice Chairman of the WIC, Hon. Basil Onwukwe, only vetted Igbo leaders will be invited to this year’s convention, noting that the decision was reached after an analysis of how some Igbo had treated Igbo affairs with levity and less concern.

“This decision stems from a growing concern over the misrepresentation of the Igbo cause for inordinate ambition from many quarters. While our leaders have neglected our people, leaving them trapped in various jails in Nigeria, these leaders seem preoccupied with representing only themselves and their families in Abuja,” Onwukwe alleged.

He disclosed that the Chairman of the WIC, Dr. Festus Okere, and his executives had finalized a formal agreement with the Igbo Organization of New England, IONE, for the WIC Convention scheduled on August 29, 2025.

Onwukwe stated that the convention marks the largest gathering of Ndigbo in the Northeast of the United States of America in a long time, stating that the IONE is a formidable Igbo organization whose decision to host Igbo leaders in the diaspora is timely.

He further disclosed that the President of IONE, Chief Bonny Chibueze, along with Vice President Dr. Ubiem and the executive council, has assembled a team of seasoned administrators led by Dr. Joyce Nwosu and Dr. Ejike Eze who are responsible for developing and facilitating a host plan that will promote the Igbo cause globally.

“The selection of a multi-venue arena at the 1000 Marriott Boston Quincy has already been finalized, among the benefits are direct flights and airport shuttle services. Reservations are first come first served and promo code WIC 2025. IONE, the Igbo Organization of New England, is rich in knowledge and wisdom. Its decision to host the Igbo diaspora and Ndigbo community is a testament to the idea that goodness begets good things.

“IONE is a respected Igbo organization that does not tolerate any abuse of Igbo culture and unity. Their monthly meetings have evolved from ordinary social gatherings to meetings of experts, fostering knowledge-sharing discussions that enable youths to learn and embrace Igbo values and entrepreneurial activities.

“This iconic organization boasts nearly five hundred investment members and celebrates Igbo Day as a public holiday in New England. Each year, the Massachusetts government sends delegates to witness the Igbo Day event,” Onwukwe further informed.

He stressed that the 2025 World Igbo Congress convention promises to be a carnival with a theme “Igbo Ebilia” which will witness the gathering of distinguished Igbo leaders from around the world that no one would want to miss.
