The Youth Orientation for Development (YOD), a non-governmental organisation, has called for cultural tolerance amongst Nigerians, particularly the youth.

Speaking during the celebration of the World Cultural Diversity Day, which held at the Korean Cultural Centre in Abuja, the President of YOD, Emmanuel Ejiogu, urged Nigerians to build a bridge of peace and tolerate one another’s culture.

Ejiogu said: “We have different cultures and all cultures should be respected and be tolerated.

“Today, we are bringing youths together, to let them know that though we are different people from one God, we have different cultures and each other’s culture should be respected and we should live peacefully as we tolerate one another’s culture.”

Ejiogu, who gathered about 100 students to commemorate the day, also said the event was geared towards sensitising the youths to know that their culture is their identity.

He added that the cultures of other people should be welcomed, and it should also be known that the culture that is their strength could be a weakness to the other person.

“But because they are able to tolerate, we can live peacefully,” Ejiogu added.

He further assured that with support from organisations, YOD would take the message of cultural tolerance to the grassroots.

Also speaking, the Event Manager, Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria, Yujin Lee, said the event was happening at a time the KCCN is celebrating its 15th year anniversary.

She disclosed KCCN has been trying to seal a cultural exchange and also promote Korean culture in Nigeria, hence the partnership with YOD.
