From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has commended the contractors handling the Apo-Wasa road and the Idu road linking the Zuba-Kubwa expressway project.
He spoke on Friday during the continuation of his infrastructure inspection tour. Wike He expressed optimism that both projects would be completed and ready for commissioning by May 2025.
“The one by Apo (Apo-Wasa road), we have seen the quality of work by the construction company, CGC and they have assured that they will complete by May, God willing. What took time was the compensation issues and the resettlement of the communities and that has been done I believe that (completion deadline) can be done.
“Also for the Idu road linking the Zuba-Kubwa expressway, the construction company, Salini and they said they are working hard to make sure they hand over by May.
Looking at the bridge, you can see it’s a serious work. What delayed was the approval from the ministry of works to cross the rail line but now that the approval has come, we believe that more work will be done.”
On his assessment of the quality of work done by the contractors, he said: “This is a job that was not awarded by our administration, it’s been awarded for years. The contractors are competent. I have always said it that we will not allow a contractor that does not seem to have the capacity to continue. So all of them (contractors) are doing well”, Wike stated.
