• as president assures minister of warm welcome to APC when ready to join

From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that any coalition of political parties aiming to thwart President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 will fail.

He made this statement during the commissioning of the N16 Shehu Shagari Way from Ring Road 1 Nnamdi Azikwe Way to N20 Wole Soyinka Way, Gishiri, and other roads in Katampe District, Abuja. The road project was commissioned by President Tinubu as part of infrastructure development efforts in the FCT.

Wike had previously dismissed claims of anti-party activities within his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and challenged critics to prove otherwise.
Wike highlighted the ongoing infrastructure projects as evidence of the administration’s progress and the positive impact on property values in the area, reflecting the “Renewed Hope Agenda” under President Tinubu’s leadership.
This declaration comes amid tensions within the opposition, with parties like the PDP, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) expressing strong opposition to Tinubu’s re-election and criticizing Wike’s endorsement of the president.

President Tinubu has expressed that Minister Wike will be warmly welcomed into the APC whenever he is ready to join, hinting that once he does, they will both share in the sentiment of the popular song, singing “as e dey sweet us, e dey pain them,” reflecting the bittersweet nature of their political journey and the mixed reactions it will evoke.
