Record label executive and serial entrepreneur, Olabisi Akanbi has opened up on the signing of young talented singer, Olatunji Oladotun Alade popularly known as Dotman by his company Labo Group.
With strong interests in real estate, automobile and entertainment, Labo Group is not a new comer in the music industry. The label birthed in 2004 and later got registered in 2008 has previously worked with commercially successful artistes.
In its first coming, the label had under its roaster wave-making artistes such as Konga, Sideone, Ecoman and Smapee.
According to Akanbi, signing Dotman was right for many reasons among which is the alignment of ambitions and ideas. “Dotman is a hardworking talent that wants to take his music to the global state and that is one thing we share in common. Afrobeat has gone global and we are seeing a lot of collaborations between Nigerian and international artistes. At Labo Group, it is our desire to expand the footprints of the Nigerian music culture and this is a shared ambition with our new artiste, Dotman. We want to take talents off the streets and put them on the world map.”
For Akanbi, humble beginnings is a reality that he can relate very well with. Through a dint of hard work, Olabisi Akanbi who bagged City People Music Special Recognition Award in 2018 rose from humble beginnings attending Africa Church Primary School and Pre-Campus Collage in Ifako-Ijaiye. His pursuit for excellence made him move to study International Business Management at Cavendish College, London and at St’ Patrick’s College also in London.
Meanwhile, Labo Group and Dotman seem to have set in motion the build-up to the release of the soon-to-be unveiled debut album. Only some days ago, the singer released the video of his latest hit song Enugbe and it is now getting air rotation on major satellite music stations.
Speaking on the forthcoming album, “For an artiste with a great work ethics, working with Dotman has been very promising. We would have love to roll out with much activation but due to the COVID19 pandemic, we had to strategize to focus on digital release alone for now at a date we will announce soon.”
“Dotman makes use of a lot of story-telling in his music which he will bring into his first body of work scheduled to be release soon by us at Labo Group and Labo Entertainment. It is not an album, it is a journey in songs. I don’t want to let out much about this work of art but I want fans and all lovers of good music have something to look forward to,” he added.
Expressing his excitement, the artiste revealed that he is looking forward to his album release. Dotman enthused, “I have worked hard and waited a long time for this time to come. To say that I am happy is putting it mildly. Everything is aligning to make the release of my first album a success coming from my days as a rookie singer in University of Lagos, Akoka (UNILAG). With God on my side and Labo Group behind me, I am excited to hold my first baby in my hands and share this beauty with world.”
