Pius Ankpo, the Cross River State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, says the present administration in the state is deploying direct labour for road projects to promote local content, optimise resources, and reduce capital flight.
He said road construction remains a priority, and the governor is focused on developing road infrastructure despite the state’s lean resources.
The commissioner disclosed this after inspecting some ongoing road projects within the state capital.
“Our strategy of employing direct labour for certain road projects is aimed at promoting local content, optimising resource management, and reducing capital flight.
“Notable projects completed through this method include the 30-metre Yellow Duke Bridge, MCC Road, Odukpani Junction, Satellite Town, and a 400-metre stretch of Edem Ekpenyong Street by Otop Abasi Road, among others,” he said.
He also pledged that the government remains dedicated to completing vital projects in the state.
He emphasised that Governor Otu is unwavering in his commitment to enhancing essential infrastructure, such as roads, despite financial challenges.
