Paul Osuyi, Asaba

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (INEC) in charge of Delta State, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe, has explained why there was delay in the commencement of the voting exercise in Asaba, the state capital.

Omorogbe told journalists in his office that the original results sheets arrived the state office of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) at 12 midnight, adding that the materials (result sheets) were being moved to the various areas at dawn.

He also reacted to the allegation of turning back voters by soldiers, saying that he would contact the security agencies to allow people with PVCs to access their voting points.

Omorogbe said voters who were in their voting centres by 2pm would be allowed to vote, insisting that the commission was prepared to deliver free and fair elections.
