Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer, Ololade Ahmed better known as Asake has stated the reason why he usually sings in Yoruba.
During a recent Instagram interactive session with fans, the ‘Ome Ope’ singer revealed that he can sing in English but prefers to perform in his home dialect, Yoruba.
He stated that individuals who refuse to accept him singing primarily in Yoruba should stop listening to his music entirely.
“I am more comfortable singing in Yoruba, it’s not that I can’t sing in English. If you fvck with me, fvck with me with my Yoruba. If not, then don’t,” he said.
All three of Asake’s albums, ‘Mr Money With The Vibes’ (2022), ‘Work of Art’ (2023), and the latest ‘Lungu Boy’ were sung predominantly in Yoruba.
His hit song ‘Amapiano’ was nominated in the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys despite being predominantly sung in Yoruba but lost to South African singer Tyla’s viral hit ‘Water’.
