Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has appointed Mr. George Eche to replace Jude Ejiogu as the Secretary to the State Government.
The choice of Eche, a ranking civil servant, according to Okorocha was in the best interest of the state.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, said he decided to appoint a core civil servant in the best interest of the people of the state.
“I have noted that certain opponents of the administration have been labouring in vain to leverage on the appointment of Mr. Eche to incite the politicians or the political class working with the governor by selling the dummy to them that the governor’s appointment of a career civil servant as the new SGI this time was somewhat vote of no confidence in the political class in the APC or in the state government.”
“The choice of Mr. Eche, a core civil servant as the new SGI was in the overall best interest of the state and her people. At the moment, in the life of the Rescue Mission Administration in the state, there are certain policies and programmes being packaged and being advanced by the government which have little or nothing to do with politics but have a lot to do with the fate of the people of the state both those in politics and those outside politics, and so, I decided to bring in a thorough civil servant to propel the success of such policies and programmes since the political life of a people is just an atom when compared with other parts of the people’s life.”
“ It is also important to point out at this stage that there is no law written or unwritten in the state that makes it compulsory that the secretary to the government of the state must come from the political class.”
