Abia born cleric, Bishop Sunday Okoro says the rotation and zoning formula of the state must be respected, saying it is the turn of Abia North to produce the next governor.
The cleric alleged that the Ukwa Ngwa bloc of the state was plotting to govern Abia for 60 consecutive years.
He stated this in a chat with newsmen on Friday morning in Umuahia, saying that power returning to Abia North was sacrosanct, noting that it is the only way to ensure peace, justice and fairness in the state.
He contended that the established zoning formula has brought peace and created conducive environment for the rapid political and socio-economic development of the state.
“It is time we listen to prominent leaders with conscience like Adolphus Wabara, Senator Theodore Orji, Dr. Eme Okoro and so many others that have spoken in support of power returning to Abia North Senatorial District. It is time for Abians to unite and support the return of power to Abia North Senatorial District. It is a panacea for unity, peace and progress.”
Recently, elders of Abia State, including senior lawyers and academics, have insisted that power must return to Abia North Senatorial District.
They took time to trace the history of zoning and democracy in the state and maintained that the palpable tension existing within the state political atmosphere was needless since history supports their insistence.
“For equity, justice and fairness, it is expedient that the governorship seat is returned to Abia North Senatorial District. It is morally wrong to support any candidate outside Abia North Senatorial District,” they said.
