The Nigerian Army said it has complied with all measures and policies put in place by the Federal Government to ensure transparency and accountability.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, made the revelation during the 2019 Nigerian Army Finance Corps West African Social Activities (WASA), explaining that the Army has set up the Directorate of Audit and Financial Management to reinvigorate its internal financial control system.
He said that the essence of creating the directorate was to improve synergy between available resources and operational impact, adding that all procurement of arms and ammunition have been carried out with the support of the Federal Government.
Buratai, who was represented by the Commander, Nigerian Army Signal Corps, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Mohammed, said the year 2018 was a successful year for the Nigerian Army Finance Corps, as several projects, including renovation and construction of some facilities and upgrade of medical facilities were executed.
He said several field-training exercises were also successfully conducted in the out-gone year, explaining that these exercises have gone a long way in reducing criminality and other nefarious activities across the country.
Buratai said that Exercise Egwu Eke 111 and Operation Safe Conduct have also worked wonders in ensuring that crime was reduced in society
He urged troops of the Nigerian Army to remain committed in the discharge of the military’s collective responsibilities of ensuring peace and stability across the country, urging officers and men to remain focused, dedicated and resilient in order to consolidate on the achievement so far recorded.
While praying for the repose of the soul of soldiers who died in battle across the country, the COAS said that the Nigerian Army would continue to look into the welfare of personnel and their families, especially with support from President Muhammadu Buhari.
Earlier, the Chief of Account Budget (CAB), Army, Major General Adebola Raheem Bakare, said the Nigerian Army Finance Corps was not relenting in ensuring the welfare of the families of personnel who died in battle.
He presented a bag of rice and a gallon of groundnut oil each to 22 widows of the personnel, who died in battle, adding that the Corps has also taken steps to give them entrepreneurial skills to ensure that their families are well catered for.
