The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has said it would continue to engage residents and stakeholders in the state on the need to protect themselves against noise pollution.
The agency’s General Manager, Dr Tunde Ajayi, made the disclosure during a press briefing held at LASEPA’s office in Alausa, Lagos in commemoration of the 2025 International Noise Awareness Day.
According to him, the agency would not relent in its advocacy programme. He added that LASEPA had embarked on a sensitisation walk across the state’s capital in order to celebrate the noise awareness day and enlighten the public on noise management.
The LASEPA boss stated further that residents of the state are aware of the negative effects of noise pollution in the society.
“As an agency of the Lagos State Government, it is our mandate to regulate the activities of the public on the impact of noise on their health and on the quality of lives of the people that live in the state.
“We are saddle with the responsibility to improve the sustainability of the environment and do everything that is possible to protect our environment.
“We need to address the great concern of noise pollution in the state because noise pollution has impact on mental and cardiovascular health as well as the overall well-being of the people.
“The theme for this year’s event, is: ‘Protect your hearing, Protect Your Health’. That is why we are making a clarion call on everybody who is in health and safety space to champion this cause of reducing noise in Lagos.”
Ajayi also spoke about regulations of the law as well as the penalties for offenders.
Leaders of churches, mosques as well as stakeholders from the Musical Advertisement Association of Nigeria (MAAN) were in attendance.
The LASEPA team present at the event included the Director, Research and Development Department, Mrs Monsurat Abdul-Warees; Director Administration and Human Resources, Mrs Adenle Olufunke; Head of Noise Control Unit, Mrs Abosede Natufe; Public Relations Officer, Adesoye Oyelami; and LASEPA’s Technical Consultant, Dr Saka Babatunde.
