From David Onwuchekwa, Nnewi
The Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Anambra State, Hon Chris Obiorah has dispelled a rumour that unknown gunmen had warned the Council Area workers to pack and go.
Hon Obiorah said no such warning came to him or any of his workers as rumoured.
He noted that security and infrastructure had been the major focus of Governor Charles Soludo’s administration.
“We have not received any threat from anybody or group of persons asking us to leave our office to stop work. What our Governor has made available in terms of security is enough to rest assured. Any other precautionary measure is to support what is on ground, ” he noted.
On what his administration has as a challenge, the TC Chairman said he would not specifically pinpoint any overwhelming challenge, adding that every institution would have its own challenge that could be handled by administrative competence.
“I wouldn’t say this is the challenge but we’re trying to offer the best administration we can at the local government level.
“With the support of our able Governor we have been able to do some palliatives on our roads, construct some drainages on the streets. During the Christmas, the Governor provided the enablement. As you may have observed, there was no hold-up during the just concluded festivities in Nnewi. Some of the potholes have been filled on our roads. And that would be sustained.
“We have a whole lot of projects in view including health centers, schools and others to attend to in Nnewi within the limit of resources available.
” The Anambra State governement is carrying out road projects here and there in Nnewi. Our Governor is doing well. Nnewi people are benefiting and stands to benefit a lot more from Governor Soludo’s governement, ” he said.
On local government autonomy, he said he had nothing to say about that.
On a democratically elected local government council, Hon Obiorah noted that it was too early for the State government to talk about that, saying that the Governor Soludo administration had to settle down first. He declared that it was not proper to talk about that now.
