The West Africa Youth League (WAYL) has officially honoured three outstanding leaders, Amb. Olajuwon Odesanya (CEO, 59 Hotel), Amb. Oluwasunfunmi Badejo (CEO, BASE TV), and Amb. Uzor John Kosisochukwu.
In a statement sent to Daily Sun on Thursday, the group said the trio were recognised for their exceptional leadership and commitment to youth empowerment and nation-building.
The leadership and Congress of WAYL commended the awardees for exemplifying the spirit of selfless service, integrity, and visionary leadership across the West African sub-region.
Founded in 1934 by notable nationalists including Bankole-Bright Johnson and I.T.A. Wallace-Johnson, the WAYL remains a cornerstone institution dedicated to political, economic, and social development in West Africa.
Through legislative and developmental training programmes facilitated in partnership with the National Assemblies and Ministries of Youth across sixteen member countries, WAYL continues to uphold its mandate in line with the United Nations Charter on Youth Development and relevant Commonwealth resolutions.
The league described the honourees as “exceptional sons of West Africa” who have distinguished themselves through their contributions to economic growth, youth empowerment, and community development.
Quoting the revered statesman Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the statement noted, “Our actions or inactions leave imprints on the sands of time and echo through eternity,” affirming that the accomplishments of Ambassadors Odesanya, Badejo, and Kosisochukwu will continue to inspire future generations.
While acknowledging that positions of power and wealth often command fear and envy, the league emphasised that true respect and celebration are reserved for leaders of courage, conviction, and selfless dedication to societal progress.
The WAYL charged the honourees to persist in their noble service to humanity, expressing optimism that their leadership will continue to light the path towards peace, development, and prosperity in West Africa.
The league reaffirmed its pride in associating with these trailblazers and extended prayers for wisdom, strength, and greater achievements in the years ahead.
