Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced an end to paper and pencil system of examination, and introduction of Computer Based Test (CBT) examination system as a replacement.
The examination body explained that it will test the innovation next February with its private candidates.
WAEC said it has made arrangements for a mock examination to be conducted in February 2024, before the commencement of the examination, to enable candidates conquer fears and anxiety, and familiarise themselves with the new platform.
WAEC Nigeria spokesperson, Moyosola Adesina, in a statement, yesterday, confirmed that the objective tests of the examination would be fully computer-based while the essay and test of practical papers would be hybrid.
“This means that the examination questions will be delivered on screen and candidates would be required to write answers on the answer booklets that would be provided for that purpose.”
She implore all prospective candidates to sharpen their computer skills and be fully prepared to embrace the innovation, adding, “as Africa’s foremost examination body that had provided qualitative and reliable educational assessment, encouraging academic and moral excellence, it is the vision of the Council that in the near future, all its examinations will be delivered via the computer.”
