The Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) has apprehended over 200 unroadworthy vehicles in a bid to enhance road safety and reduce accidents caused by unfit vehicles across the state.

In a Sunday statement, the service said the vehicles were apprehended during a recent enforcement operation led by its Director, Engr. Akin-George Fashola.

Fashola disclosed that the enforcement exercise targeted a wide range of vehicles, with a significant number comprising commercial minibuses, including; danfos and korope vehicles which has contributed largely to numerous accidents in the state.

He emphasised that the operation was not restricted to private vehicles alone, as is commonly believed, but covered all categories of vehicles contributing to the state’s transport ecosystem.

The VIS director urged all vehicle owners, particularly those intending to use their vehicles for commercial purposes to ensure they meet the required roadworthy standards.

“Before commercialising your vehicle, make sure it is fit for the road. You can even take it to any of our annex offices for proper inspection before putting it into operation,” Fashola stated.

He also assured the public of the VIS’ commitment to sustaining the enforcement exercise aimed at improving road safety for a safer, more efficient transport system in Lagos.
