The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda has ordered disciplinary action against some policemen and officers caught assaulting a young man in a viral video.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Bright Edafe disclosed this in an X post on Sunday.
A netizen, @ChuksEricE had taken to the social media platform on Saturday, April 5, to share a video showing some unidentified policemen appearing to beat up a young man.
The policemen can be seen raining slaps and kicks on the young man.
The 23-second video ends as the victim is bundled into a waiting police van.
The poster said the incident occurred in Agbor, Delta State.
Reacting to the video on Sunday, Edafe said the CP ordered that senior police officers involved be queried.
According to the police spokesman, the CP also ordered the detention of the policemen involved in the incident.
He said the culprits would be subjected to an orderly room trial which commences on Monday, April 7.
“Action taken!!! Delta State Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda has ordered their detention while the team leaders who are senior police officers be queried.
“Orderly room trial to commence on Monday. While the evidence is obvious, the evidence of the guy assaulted can help to reach a deserving judgment,” Edafe said.
