Leadership of Veteran Wrestlers Association of Nigeria (VWAN) have strongly advocated that technocrats dominate the next board of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF).
Rising from an online meeting at the weekend, the veterans affirmed that only those who had won laurels in wrestling in the past can effectively interpret their dream of reviving the sport through the next board of the NWF.
A statement signed by the Financial Secretary, Veteran Wrestlers Association of Nigeria, Philip Momoh, revealed that they have chosen the Edo State Wrestling Association Chairman, Morris Atula, also known as “Golden Warrior” as the dream president of the next NWF board.
“Our president, Morris Atula, is a confirmed technocrat who would take our wrestling to the zenith. Atula is tested, trusted and have the pedigree to boost wrestling. Only technocrats and those with deep knowledge of wrestling would be needed to complement his effort in repositioning Nigerian wrestling“, Momoh ssid, adding that philanthropists and other stake holders would be accommodated in their sophisticated programmes if they come on board.
Atula commended efforts of the Controller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, K.N. Nandap, for his endless support for wrestling and wrestlers.
“I am highly impressed with the Controller General for sponsoring and supporting wrestling events. Those who can support in cash and kind are the people we want around us. We will provide mileage through rotational training programmes and championships in different parts of the country”, he said.
Atula, an ex-Nigeria, Commonwealth and world wrestling champion added that the next NWF board would not compromise training, rotational tournaments, provision of training mats, scholarships and other welfare packages to wrestlers in the six geo-political zones of the country.
