Jamaican sprint legend, Usain Bolt has been officially recognised as a Guinness World Records (GWR) Icon.

The icon certificate was presented to Bolt by GWR Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday.

According to information on its website, the GWR said its icons are “incredible people and moments who shape the world we live in today.”

It added, “From science and tech innovators to sports stars, creatives, activists and uniquely GWR record-breakers, these are the pioneers, the lifelong obsessives, the dedicated and the dreamers who have come to define what it means to earn a place in Guinness World Records history.”

In 2009, Bolt became the fastest man ever when he clocked 9.58 seconds to win gold in the 100 metres race at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin.

His recognition is part of activities commemorating GWR’s 70th anniversary.

“I’m honoured to be a part of the greats, and always happy to be recognised by the Guinness World Records book.

“For years I’ve been in there and I’ve finally got all the certificates, which are going to look really good in my house,” Bolt said.

Other 2025 Icons include basketball star Lebron James, football legend Cristiano Ronaldo, British explorer Preet Chandi, world’s tallest woman Rumeysa Gelgi, singer Taylor Swift, among others.
