The United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) has praised the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its operational successes.
INL also assured NDLEA Chairman Brig Gen Mohamed Marwa (retd) of increased support and collaboration in the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
INL Director in Nigeria, Ms Candace Spradley, accompanied by Ms Ada Aki, visited Marwa at NDLEA’s national headquarters in Abuja. Spradley highlighted the visit’s purpose: to strengthen the US government’s commitment to combating narcotics, especially opioids, and to deepen ties with NDLEA.
“Our visit is to underscore the importance of our collaboration and to assure you that we’re ready to support your work. If there is any area of assistance you need, we’ll be ready to assist,” she said.
Marwa, in response, stressed President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to tackling drug abuse and trafficking.
He also noted US President Donald Trump’s keen interest in addressing the drug crisis. Marwa thanked INL for its support, which has helped position NDLEA as Africa’s leading anti-narcotics agency. However, he appealed for further assistance to maintain NDLEA’s momentum.
He listed key needs, including operational vehicles, forensic laboratory equipment, training for forensic analysts, cyberspace and cryptocurrency investigation capabilities, and drug testing kits for field operations.
