The President of the Nigerian American Public Affairs Committee (NAPAC-USA), Dr. Nelson Aluya has shared his insights on Tunde Onakoya’s groundbreaking achievement in the world of chess and its broader implications for the Nigerian and African diaspora.
Dr. Aluya described Onakoya as a rare gem not only for Nigeria but also for the entire African and the black community, emphasizing his role in challenging stereotypes and showcasing the potential of black men and women worldwide.
He lauded Olukoya’s dedication to using chess as a tool for empowerment, particularly among disadvantaged slum communities in Lagos Nigeria. Projecting his efforts to raise awareness and funds for educating children in African slums. Aluya underscored the significance of Olukoya’s work in setting a precedence for individuals to take charge and leadership in their respective fields and finding innovative ways of solving pressing societal issues.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s evolving narrative, Aluya noted a significant shift from negative portrayals to positive stories emerging from the country. Aluya highlighted Nigeria’s growing influence in sectors such as music, entertainment, medicine, and technology, where individuals like Davido, Kizz Daniel, and Burna Boy are making notable contributions and garnering international recognition with Nigerian’s Afrobeats music, Nollywood and in our food. He emphasized the role of media, particularly social media, In amplifying Nigeria’s achievements
“Nigerians thank God for social media, where Nigeria’s now taken charge of and leadership of their narrative, pushing the story across to the world for people to see that we’re here was established, and we’re ready to take over, because like they always say, “Nigeria no dey carry last,” we’re not ready to take last rather we are fostering a sense of national pride and unity among Nigerians worldwide.”
