Lagos State Government has called on residents of Lagos Island to cooperate with the ongoing urban regeneration and infrastructure projects aimed at improving road networks and drainage systems in the area.

The state government made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting held for the redevelopment of several key streets, including Idumagbo Avenue, Ojo Giwa, Oroyinyin, Moshalasi Okoya, Iga-Iduganran Streets, and the completion of the Adeniji Adele Road.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, emphasized that the state government was set to embark on at least 15 road projects in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser on Enterprise Geographic Information Service (E-GIS), Urban Development, and relevant state ministries.

He urged residents to cooperate with contractors working on these projects to improve connectivity and provide better social amenities for the people of Lagos Island.

In his remarks, Permanent Secretary of the Office of Infrastructure, Lateef Somide, highlighted that the meeting demonstrated the government’s commitment to inclusive governance.

He noted that the road projects would not only enhance connectivity but also help reduce travel times, foster economic growth, and align with the state’s THEMES Plus agenda. The initiative is also expected to address flooding concerns in the commercial hub of Lagos Island.

Mahmood Adegbite, Permanent Secretary of the Office of Drainage Services, also spoke at the event, urging residents to support efforts to improve the aesthetic value of the area and enhance the drainage system.

He called on property owners to ensure proper waste disposal and the installation of septic tanks, particularly as the reconstruction of roads and drainage systems progresses.

Community leaders and other stakeholders present at the meeting voiced their support for the state government’s plans.

They encouraged the government to also focus on removing illegal structures, strengthening enforcement of environmental laws, and establishing recreational centres in the area. Residents expressed confidence that the efforts would make Lagos Island a more livable and conducive environment for both businesses and families.

The event featured presentations from state government officials, including General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA), Gbolahan Oki, as well as community leaders, road transport unions, white cap chiefs, and other dignitaries.
