UNIZIK disposed to synergy with federal lawmakers – Ag. Vice Chancellor

The Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu has restated the commitment of the university management in maintaining the existing synergy and harmonious relationship between the university and federal legislators at the National Assembly which has enhanced its development trajectory.

Prof. Ikechebelu who spoke yesterday while hosting members of the Anambra Caucus in the Federal House of Representatives who paid him a courtesy visit, said the university is open to collaborations that enhances its infrastructural and academic standing, noting that its current ranking as the fourth best institution in Nigeria under 50 years of age didn’t come by isolation.

He outlined the university’s commitment to academic excellence, mentioning the need for improved infrastructure to support its growth. He acknowledged the beneficial partnership with the caucus in the past and expressed hope for continued collaboration.

“We have always enjoyed a good relationship with the Anambra Caucus, which has been instrumental in our development. We look forward to blossoming this relationship further,” he said

The delegation included Hon. Afam Ogene (Ogbaru), Hon. Dom Okafor (Aguata), Hon. Chinwe Nnabuife (Orumba North and South), Hon. Ifeanyi Uzokwe (Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo), Hon. Engr Emeka Idu (Onitsha North and South), Hon. Chinwe Gwacham (Oyi/Ayamelum), and Chief Peter Aniekwe Udeogalanya (Anambra East and Anambra West Federal constituencies).

Hon. Afam Ogene, who led the delegation, earlier stated that their visit was driven by the desire to ensure that Anambra receives its due share from the federal budget. “We are committed to representing our people effectively and see Nnamdi Azikiwe University as a critical partner in this effort. Our collaboration is not isolated but synergistic with other Honorable members,” he said. He assured the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the caucus’ dedication to fostering a strong partnership and collaboration with the university, especially in securing necessary resources from Abuja.

In a vote of thanks, Hon.Chinwe Nnabuife reassured the Acting Vice-Chancellor and the university community of the caucus’ unwavering support.

“You are in the safest of hands. We are always ready in Abuja to assist with university-related matters and are committed to a synergy that will benefit the university,” she affirmed.

The meeting was attended by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Sam Ufoh, University Librarian, Dr. Stella Anasi, Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Academic Matters, Prof. Frederick Odibo, Chief Legal Officer, Prof. Meshach Umenweke, and Prof.Emma Ezenwaji.
