The Governing Council of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has appointed Prof. Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor. She assumes duty today.
Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Olugbenga Kukoyi, who disclosed the appointment in a letter, also said her selection and approval was sequel to her nomination by the Senate of the university.
Arinze-Umobi, professor of Human Rights and Family Law of the Faculty of Law of the university, began her career as an Assistant Lecturer in the faculty in 1997. She became a professor in 2014.
The Federal Ministry of Education said it had been notified of the selection effective May 19.
The statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Boriowo Folashade, read in part: “The ministry expresses its satisfaction that the selection process was conducted in line with due process as provided under Section 5 (13) of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisional) (Amendment) Act 2003- through nomination by the University Senate and subsequent approval by the Governing Council.”
