The member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State, Ikenga Ugochinyere, has been ranked as one top 10 impactful lawmakers in the last six months.
An independent report by Order Paper, an online news portal dedicated to parliamentary reportage, rated a motion sponsored by Ugochinyere on the ‘Arbitrary increase in Petroleum Price’ on July 19, 2023, as one of the most impactful motion by the 10th House in its first six months.
The lawmaker, who is also the chairman, House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), in the motion had drawn the attention of the House to the arbitrary hike in price of petroleum products, and the attendant hardship to the citizens, and called for the intervention of the parliament.
The rating, which was released to mark the end of 2023 legislative business, was based on quality of motions and Bills sponsored or co-sponsored by the 360 members of the House , in the period under review.
Other top motions by the lawmaker included a motion calling attention to the gully erosion in Ideato Federal Constituency and environs, as well as motion on “rgent Need To Carry Out Reconstruction Works On The Failed Portions Of The Oba-Nnewi-Uga-Akokwa-Arondizuogu-Okigwe Federal Road In Idemili North/South, Nnewi North/South/Ekwusigo, Aguata And Ideato North/South Federal Constituencies Of Anambra And Imo States Of Nigeria’.
Also, Ugochinyere has to his credit 11 bills, some of which have passed second reading with some at the final stage of passage, in a space of 6 months.
Prominent amongst the Bills are, the ‘Joint Admissions And Matriculations Board Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (HB, 198)’; ‘The Interpretation Act (Amendment) Bill 2023 (HB. 27), which he Co-sponsored with the Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu and 5 other members; among others.
