Troops of Exercise Enduring Peace III has rescued three kidnapped victims in Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA), of Benue State.
The Special Adviser to Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, on Security and Internal Affairs, Mr. Joseph Har, PSP, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said the victims were rescued on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, after he got a tip off and alerted the Commanding Officer, Lt Col. Kefas.
Troops, made up of 72 battalion and soldiers of 401 brigade, on October 13, 2023, rescued seven kidnapped victims in Ogumula village, Ohimini Local Government Area, (LGA), of the state.
Har,said the troops during a patrol along Naka – Makurdi road, sighted some criminals attempting to rob and kidnap some locals.
He explained that on sighting the troops, the kidnappers ran in disarray leaving behind the victims.
He said the troops gave them a good chase into the bush and rescued three persons.
The statement reads: “Troops on patrol along Naka- Makurdi road, sighted some criminals attempting to rob and kidnap locals. On sighting on troops, they ran in disarray leaving behind the victims.
“The troops further pursued them in the bushes and three civilians were rescued.”
Har appreciated the troops for their success so far and called on Benue residents to be vigilante and report all suspicious persons and movements to security agencies in the state for prompt action.
