A woman simply identified as Cecilia, and her three children were confirmed dead on Saturday in an accident that occurred around Obada market in Ode-omu, Ayedaade Local Government of Osun State.

It was gathered that the accident involved a car with registration number Lagos BDG 481 JD, traveling to Ibadan from Osogbo and a motorcycle that faced Osogbo, carrying a woman and her four children who were returning from vigil in Ode-omu.

Findings showed that the accident occurred around 6 am in the morning when the motorcyclist simply identified as Abraham was taking the passengers to their home at Oogi after the vigil.

It was gathered that among the six persons on the motorcycle, only the child strapped at the late woman’s back survived the tragic incident.

Investigation showed that people of Ode-omu who were horrified by the incident descended on the passengers of the vehicle and caught two out of three of them, and set them ablaze.

An eyewitness account revealed that “immediately the people saw the bodies on ground, they stormed out and went for passengers and caught two and burned them around that Obada River.”

The spokesperson of the police in Osun, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident saying that “two children were at the front, another one at the middle, another was backed by their mother while on the bike. The children died instantly, including their mother and the bike man. Only one the child backed by the mother survived.

“The driver escaped immediately the accident happened. After much appeal to the angry mob, they set ablaze the remaining two occupants of the vehicle. Later, we quenched the fire and rescued them and transferred them to a hospital in Osogbo,” Opalola said.
