Fashion trends are a manifestation of ideas that are embraced by people of diverse backgrounds for the unique nature of execution, quality and sophistication.
This year’s edition of the Akure Fashion Expo has shed a deserving spotlight on TK Couture, one of the fashion designers whose crafts and designs were embraced by fashion enthusiasts and consumers at the event.
The buzz about TK Couture’s craftsmanship, interpretation of design and unique delivery of style, in combination with most of Nigeria’s indigenous fabric, is well deserved.

The fashion brand, which is co-owned by twin sisters, Taiwo and Kehinde Kolawole, stole the show with its Adunni Collection described by one of the organisers of the event as an “amalgamation of flair and elegance”. Also, fashion consumers and analysts who graced the event showered praises on the young brand whose first outing at the expo was impressive.
Inspired by the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba, particularly the southwestern region of Nigeria, the Adunni Collection is a representation of culture in different unique designs. The designs were in different categories, ranging from summer wear, nightlife wear, and corporate attire. Each reflected the ideas of an innovative fashion illustrator and execution of a skilled tailor. Fabrics like Adire, Ankara, Kampala, and Ghana’s Kente were creatively stitched and knitted together to deliver designs that fit for places like the beach, mall and offices.
The word ‘Adunni’ translates to ‘sweetness’, capturing the essence of this captivating collection that combines traditional Yoruba aesthetics with modern high-fashion insights, which stem from the Western fashion culture. All the final products were delivered in perfect sizes for women with different body shapes to elevate their beauty. The side attraction seems to be the use of other art and fashion accessories to complement each design.
For an outfit that is about two years in existence, TK Couture showed positive signs that portray it as a fashion brand of prospect. This was also confirmed in the positive reviews given by most members of the press who covered the expo, while others explored possible areas of improvement.
Beyond fashion, it is pertinent to note that Taiwo and Kehinde Kolawole are a bunch of organised, passionate and ambitious personalities. It will be exciting to see how they develop in the coming years. This spotlight is a ray on their path to many more successes.
