Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has affirmed that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering tangible progress, particularly in Lagos, as he commissioned three additional train sets, for the Blue Line Rail operations .
The commissioning ceremony, held at the National Theatre in Iganmu, was attended by key government officials, including the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi; Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso; Special Adviser on Transportation, Sola Giwa; and Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Abimbola Akinajo.
Sanwo-Olu credited the successful procurement of the new coaches to financial support from President Tinubu, describing the delivery as a significant milestone in enhancing public transportation in Lagos.
“With these new sets, we are doubling the capacity on the Blue Line. This means reduced travel time, faster turnaround, and a more reliable commuting experience. Trains will now arrive every 10 to 15 minutes,”the governor announced.
He recalled that the president’s intervention followed the introduction of CNG-powered buses and the removal of fuel subsidies, highlighting Tinubu’s understanding of and support for sub-national development initiatives.
“About a year and a half ago, Mr. President supported us financially to deliver these new coaches. This is proof that the Renewed Hope Agenda is not just a slogan—it’s working for Lagos and for Nigeria,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The governor noted that the new trains would make operations on the Blue Line more cost-effective and sustainable, with all safety protocols in place for their deployment.
He also provided an update on the ongoing Phase 2 of the Blue Line, extending from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, assuring Lagos residents that construction of tracks and stations is progressing on schedule.
Looking ahead, Sanwo-Olu disclosed that additional coaches are expected for the Red Line rail corridor before year-end, in line with President Tinubu’s directive to strengthen mass transit infrastructure across the country.
“This is just the beginning. We ask residents to remain hopeful and confident in this administration. The dividends of democracy are becoming visible,” the governor said.
The new trains are part of a larger strategy to modernize Lagos’ transport system and establish the state as a model for sustainable urban mobility in Africa.
