President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Benue State Governor Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, among other dignitaries, have commended the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr Oliver Ali Aba, for his outstanding spiritual leadership and contributions to nation-building.
The accolades were delivered during a church service held in Lagos on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, to celebrate Prelate Aba’s 65th birthday.
President Tinubu, represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, praised Dr Aba for being a consistent voice for righteousness, equity, and peace in society.
“Through the years, your voice has not only echoed from the pulpit but also resonated within the corridors of society as a beacon of righteousness, equity, and peace. Your teachings have uplifted countless lives, inspired hope in times of despair, and contributed meaningfully to the moral foundation of our beloved country. Beyond the spiritual realm, your engagement in education, healthcare, and community development reflects a holistic approach to ministry and a deep concern for the welfare of Nigerians,” Akume said.
Also speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by his wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, highlighted the prelate’s commitment to promoting love, selflessness, and social justice.
“Dr Aba’s dedication to promoting moral values and accountability within the church serves as a model for society. His advocacy against corruption and emphasis on compassion, service, and integrity align with our collective aspiration for ethical leadership and good governance,” she said.
Benue State Governor Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, represented by his deputy, Samuel Ode, praised Dr Aba for his lifestyle and selfless service to humanity.
Ode also called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and united, stressing that peace and unity are essential for national progress.
“We should be hopeful for a better Nigeria. We must stay united, as only in an atmosphere of peace and unity can development thrive,” he added.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential aspirant, Adewale Adebayo, who chaired the occasion, also praised the prelate’s lifestyle and commitment to a better society.
Former Minister of Sport, Solomon Lalong, and former Taraba State governor, Rev Jolly Nyame, were also present at the occasion.
All the dignitaries described the prelate as a moral compass and agent of national transformation.
