President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has proposed the sum of N3.5 trillion for the education sector in the 2025 fiscal year, which is N2 trillion higher than the N1.5 trillion proposed in the 2024 budget.
The figure was contained in the 2025 budget proposal titled “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” presented to the joint sitting of the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday, seeking their quick consideration and passage.
A breakdown of the proposed 2025 budget allocations indicated that Defence and Security received N4.91 trillion; Infrastructure received N4.06 trillion; Education, N3.52 trillion; and Health, N2.48 trillion.
“As we embark on implementing the 2025 budget, our steps are deliberate, our decisions resolute, and our priorities are clear. This budget reflects a renewed commitment to strengthening the foundation of a robust economy while addressing critical sectors essential for growth and development,” Tinubu stated.
Sunday Asefon, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement, appreciated the President for such a significant consideration for the education sector, demonstrated through the improved budgetary allocation.
He said, “This is the highest allocation to the education sector in Nigeria’s history. This remarkable commitment underscores the President’s belief that education is the best legacy to empower the youth.
“With this landmark investment, affordable and quality education at all levels is now within reach, bringing renewed hope to students and families nationwide. Truly, this is a transformative step towards building a brighter future for Nigeria.”
