In a move to bolster leadership in the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board (FGSHLB), President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Salamatu Ahmed as the new Executive Secretary.

The appointment was announced on Monday, July 1, 2024, by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoSF), Folasade Yemi-Esan, during a handover ceremony in her office.

With Ahmed’s appointment, the FGSHLB aims to continue its commitment to advancing home ownership among federal government staff through mortgage financing.

Ahmed, who previously served as the Board’s Director of Operations, succeeds Ibrahim Mairiga, whose four-year tenure is set to expire in September 2024.

In her congratulatory remarks, the HoSF urged the new appointee to leverage her wealth of experience gained over the years to drive the Board’s mission of providing sustainable housing loans to federal government employees.

The FGSHLB, established in 1924 under the colonial administration as the “Africa Staff Housing Loans Scheme,” was later renamed in 1974 by an enabling law to carry out the same function.

The Board’s primary mandate is to manage a revolving housing loan fund, enabling federal public servants to build, purchase, renovate or extend residential houses in Nigeria.
