TikTok users in the United States are heaving a sigh of relief following the restoration of the app hours after it went dark due to a federal ban.
TikTok was restored in the country after President-elect Donald Trump said he would attempt to pause the ban by executive order on his first day in office.
Trump’s decision is to give TikTok’s China-based parent company ByteDance more time to find an approved buyer before the ban takes full effect.
Those who signed on to the app on Sunday were greeted by a message thanking them and the president-elect for their support.
“As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.!” the message read.
It was also revealed that Trump assured “the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties”.
